Large, protruding and asymmetrical ears can cause aesthetic concerns for young people. The suggested age for this surgery is between 5 - 7 for this will preempt ridicule induced psychological problems in children. However, surgery can be carried out at any age with good results. Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure and local anesthetics are used. Ear cartilage is reshaped during surgery and theresults are final. This procedure does not affect hearing. Scarring is unnoticeable and behind the ear. No marks are left on the front of the ear.
